As Manager of Community Affairs & Grassroots for Southwest Airlines, Lidia S. Martinez is the primary point of contact for community outreach in Southern California. Her continued success in her various positions at Southwest have led to an expansion in her market reach and an increase in her responsibilities. In addition to being responsible for Southern California, Lidia leads a Team responsible for community outreach in the West Coast, and continues to support national efforts in New York City and Washington, DC. Los Cabos San Lucas (Mexico) is a new market for Martinez.

Lidia is responsible for engaging in outreach efforts and maintaining relationships with nonprofit organizations, chambers of commerce and community leaders. Lidia works with external stakeholders to ensure that Southwest Airlines maintains a visible leadership position within our community and sets the standard for outreach and corporate social responsibility in Southern California. Martinez has been honored by many local and national organizations for her work in the non-profit community.

In addition, Lidia is responsible for nurturing and informing the small business community of Southwest Airlines’ small business support processes.

Lidia maintains positive relationships with government officials, community leaders, the media, and social and civic organizations. In addition to her work at Southwest Airlines, she serves on numerous boards and is involved in a variety of organizations dedicated to empowering under-represented communities. She has served as the National Board Vice Chair for the Los Angeles-based National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC), whose mission is to improve the image and employment of Hispanic Americans in all media. She is the Immediate Past Chair and continues to serve on the MANA National Board of Directors. MANA is a DC-based organization with Chapters across the country that empowers Latinas through leadership development, community service and advocacy.

She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute (USHLI); Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI); and LEAD San Diego and Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) Board of Directors.

Other key organizations where Martinez represents her company on an advisory level are: National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund; California Latino Caucus Institute (CLCI); and National Education Association (NEA).

Born in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua and raised in El Paso, Texas, Martinez studied at the University of Texas in Arlington where she received a Business Administration degree with a focus in Marketing. She and her husband Ted have two children, Melyna (27) and Teddy (24), and grand-puppy Marley (5). They currently reside in San Diego, CA.
